About Us
It’s hard to believe it’s been 16 years since we opened the Bed and Breakfast here in L’Esprit, and what an incredible journey it has been! We’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful new friends and welcoming back returning guests, making every experience truly special. Since opening, we’ve been honored with recognition as one of Google’s Favorite Places, Best of Oldham hotels and B&Bs, and ranked #1 in Kentucky for Amenities. We’ve been reviewed by four different writers in their books, featured in Kentucky Monthly and Today’s Woman, highlighted in equestrian publications, and included in the recipe book Room At the Top and The Great Inns design book. We couldn't be more thrilled! The owner has poured all her skills into creating this unique bed and breakfast in the Louisville, Kentucky area—a B&B with the amenities and ambiance of a luxury hotel, nestled in the heart of Bluegrass Country. It has been a dream come true for her, and rest assured, she will make your stay something truly special. With a wealth of experiences across the U.S. and Europe, including unforgettable trips on the QE2, Concorde, and even a Russian icebreaker, she’ll be happy to share fascinating stories with you. She’s also well-versed in equestrian adventures, including participating in the Tevis Cup, an endurance ride spanning 100 miles from Auburn to Tahoe City, California, in 24 hours. Her love for entertaining, cooking, and animals is what inspired her to take this exciting step, and it shows in every detail of your stay.
Cheryl is not only an Innkeeper but also a dedicated Broker and Realtor®, applying the same client-focused approach to real estate as she does to running her Inn. While her passion lies with horses and selling equestrian properties, she also specializes in luxury homes, probate real estate, and helping first-time homebuyers. There's nothing more rewarding for her than helping someone find their dream home!
Don't forget about your additional host, Sammy! He's part of the family and absolutely adorable, greeting all guests with his big, cheerful smile. You might also catch a glimpse of Sassy, our barn cat, lounging on the hot tub when no one's looking.
When you visit, you'll also meet Dakota and Sasha, the loves of Cheryl’s life. These beautiful horses will make your stay even more special as you watch them graze peacefully in the front pasture while you enjoy breakfast.
There’s a wonderful quote from the book If I Only Had a Horse, My Life Would Be Different: "Horses afford us the luxury of enchantment. While there may be no romancing boarding fees and vet bills, whenever a horse emerges in your life, fantasy awakens. Horses fuel the imaginations of children and nurture the youthful souls of adults." The book is available for you to enjoy during your stay.
After all, what would a place like Bluegrass Country Estate be without these majestic creatures? Come join us and enjoy the company of our beloved horses, along with Sassy, our spoiled barn cat!

History
The history of L’Esprit, where the Bluegrass Country Estate Kentucky B&B is located, is quite fascinating. It was originally envisioned as a 5,000-acre Arabian horse farm development. While Arabian horses are indeed a stunning breed, it's fitting that a Thoroughbred Training Center now occupies the main facilities.
The area is filled with picturesque horse farms, making it a true haven for horse and country lovers. Bluegrass Country Estate is one of the few bed and breakfasts in the region located in the countryside, offering luxury accommodations with an array of amenities. The addition of the new horse barn has redefined the concept of lodging for both horse and rider.
Since opening in late 2007, the Inn has welcomed many wonderful guests. The Kentucky Derby is a particular favorite, and we are typically booked a year in advance. The Breeders' Cup returns to Louisville every few years, and it has become one of the most highly anticipated events in the area. We also host guests from all over who bring their horses to enjoy a weekend of riding, swimming, and relaxation. Bluegrass Country Estate has become a local favorite for those seeking a luxurious, pampered getaway!
